On his latest release, “FORWARD,” J French drives with utter confidence and evident love for music. The single debuts with a mildly hopeful soundscape, relaxing and partially organic, influenced by hip hop’s smoother side.
J French, a rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Oklahoma City, has completed what appears to be a lifetime’s worth of music industry experience. Since crafting his first rhyme to Devin The Dude’s “Don’t Wait” at the age of 12, he has created his own publishing company and collaborated with various rappers in the Oklahoma-Texas and Los Angeles scenes, including RC & The Gritz, Erykah Badu’s official band, and members of TDE. Despite everything, J French remains as cool as a cucumber. He rigorously sticks to a self-imposed necessity to create music from the soul. “I’m determined to be heard,” French says.
“FORWARD” is an openly intense, dynamic, yet musically soothing composition. It’s apparent from the start that this creation is one of intention and depth.
As you listen to the lines, to the rap flow transitioning into pure spoken word, the ideas quickly connect, and the tone of the voice is so genuine that it all feels natural and thus more emotional than a less genuine project with similar themes might.
Rather than a heavier and harder-hitting style, those invigorating yet peaceful vibes draw you in. The tone of J French’s voice and his relaxed yet rhythmic approach to singing is suitable for this type of musical mood.
The whole thing has style and sounds excellent — immersive and dependable for anyone looking for a classic, easy-going hip-hop tune with a hint of complexity.
In the final quarter, a great music piece extends to the finish for a little more than one and a half minutes, drowning you in by the music’s beautiful feelings and quiet intensity, which clearly demonstrates J French’s originality.
“FORWARD” is a song that everybody, regardless of musical taste, can hear, understand, and truly feel – the ultimate mark of a masterwork in any genre.
